Club President: John Versey

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the website for the Rotary Club of Hertford Shires.

We meet every Wednesday at The Roebuck Hotel in Ware, Hertfordshire, and we are always very pleased to welcome visitors and guests, so do come along and meet us. You will find us to be a very friendly and lively club.
I am pleased to serve Hertford Shires as President for the second time. I know that the enthusiasm of the members will ensure another successful year of service to help with our local, national and international ambitions.

The club is very active carrying out a number of events to support the local community throughout the year. We are involved in the Dickensian Evening in December and participate in the Ware Town Fete and have taken part in the annual procession through the town on Carnival day. You can read these and many more of our activities in the other reports on the website but one of our major fundraising events may be of particular interest as they do invite your participation. We will be holding our Charity Dragon Boat Challenge in June 2012. This year there will be an Olympic theme attached so wait and see what this will mean!

If you would like to register interest in the event then please drop us an e-mail and we will keep you informed.

We support a number of important charities both at home and abroad. This year in particular we will be supporting The Alzheimer’s Society, and Diabetes UK, both diseases which sadly affects so many people in this country.

End Polio Now Meanwhile on the world stage Rotary International continues to strive towards its goal of eliminating polio, still prevalent in many poorer parts of the world, through its Ending Polio Now and Thanks for Life campaigns and although already much has been achieved, this year will see continued support to the ongoing immunisation programme. Local Rotary clubs including Hertford Shires took part in a national campaign to promote awareness of Thanks for Life through the planting of millions of crocuses in October and we look forward to seeing them flower in time for Rotary Day – 23rd February 2012.

Do keep an eye on our website as further information about our events is published and of course if you would like to become more closely involved with Rotary we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Best wishes,

John Versey
